Description

91 points Bruce Sanderson (Wine Spectator): “Fresh and focused, with a line of sinewy tannins underneath cherry, boysenberry and earth flavors. Firm, yet also on the elegant side, this red shows plenty of character. Best from 2024 through 2032. 100 cases imported. (11/15/21)”

91 points Tim Atkin, MW.

90-91 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): “The 2018 Pommard ‘Vieilles Vignes’ from Domaine Joseph Voillot had settled in a bit more from its racking than the Volnay villages, offering up a precise and promising bouquet of black cherries, dark berries, venison, woodsmoke, a good base of soil, just a touch of oak and a nice dollop of mustard seed in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely transparent, with a great core of pure fruit, ripe, buried tannins and excellent length and grip on the very well-balanced finish. This is a proper young Pommard and will need a good decade to blossom, but it has fine potential. 2028-2055. (Nov/Dec 2019)”

90 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): “As usual, the 2018 Pommard Vieilles Vignes is a touch more muscular than the corresponding Volnay, but it’s no less refined this year, delivering aromas of plums, cherries and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety, nicely concentrated palate. Drink: 2025-2045. (Jan 2021)”

90 points Neal Martin (Vinous): “[$86 list] The 2018 Pommard Vieilles Vignes has a perfumed, quite floral bouquet with iris petals and a touch of rose infusing the mixture of red and black fruit, a little earthy in style. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry, fine structure and a tad more expressive than the Volnay at this precise time. Good length here with a tingle on the tongue after the wine has departed. Drink: 2023-2036. (Dec 2020)”
