Description
92-96 points Jasper Morris, MW: “From Les Treux, planted on 2001. They pay good attention to restricting the yields. Fine attractive mid purple colour. Elegant, fine boned, silky, very persistent, very classily.”
93-94 points Steen Öhman (Winehog): “The Echezeaux is a treat – coming from Les Treux and is made in one 500 liter barrel. A vivacious and energetic wine, and a hard match for the Aux Reignots. It’s multi layered and with plenty of fruit, and typical 2017s – fresh and forward. In the end it will presumably surpass the Aux Reignots. Drink 2030. (6/5/18)”
92-94 points Neal Martin (Vinous): “The 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru is matured entirely in new oak (two-and-a-half barrels), although unlike the Aux Reignots, I find this much more integrated with the wood, so that the red currant jus and raspberry scents are able to express themselves. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin. There is plenty of energy here, veins of blood orange infusing the vibrant, energetic finish. It will require several years to absorb the oak, but this has great potential. Drink: 2024-2042. (Jan 2019)”
93 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): “Unfurling in the glass with aromas of sweet raspberries, cherries, licorice and spices, the 2017 Échezeaux Grand Cru is full-bodied, broad and lively, with fine structuring tannins that are largely concealed behind an impressively bright, vibrant core of fruit. This is also showing well, and it’s likely to prove a comparatively immediate, front-loaded example of Felettig’s lone grand cru. Drink: 2021-2037. (Nov 2019)”
Felettig’s Echézeaux parcel of vines lies in the sub-plot of Les Treux, the finest of Echézeaux’s 13 lieux-dits according to Henri Jayer. This is the smallest of Felettig’s holdings at just 0.12 ha. Only one 500-liter barrel was produced in 2017.
