Description
94 points Neal Martin (Vinous): “[$224 list] The 2017 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru offers attractive red berry fruit, undergrowth and tea leaf aromas that are very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, fresh acidity, classic in style with a plenty of blood orange and zesty notes, a touch of sous-bois towards the finish. “Old school” after tasting the 2018, 2019 and 2020, but I really admire this, perhaps more than the ’18. Drink: 2024-2038. (Dec 2021)”
94 points Tim Atkin, MW (Decanter): “Paul Zanetti tends to make two different cuvées from the Clos des Epeneaux, one from younger vines and one from the older, left side of the premier cru, planted between 65 and 98 years ago. The combination in bottle is definitely more than the sum of its parts. This is not a blockbuster vintage for what can be an ageworthy wine, but it’s still appealing in a lighter, more approachable mode, with some tannic grip but lots of perfume, finesse and succulent berry sweetness. Drinking Window: 2024-2029. (Nov 2018)”
93 points Jasper Morris, MW: “Fine clear bright colour. The bouquet is restrained but the intensity of fruit reverberates across the palate. Red fruit leads the way with some blacker notes behind. Complete and very interesting, with just the right tannins in support. (Sep 2021)”
