Description

95 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): “Shows a lot of finesse and elegance, with a bright cherry fruit, abundant floral notes and enough freshness to carry it through to a rewarding conclusion. The house owns nearly one hectare in Lavaux St-Jacques. In 2020, the fruit was picked at 13.5% and fermented with a good proportion of whole clusters before being run into cask (38% new) for ageing. Drinking Window: 2025-2040. (May 2021)”

92-95 points Jasper Morris, MW: “Another colour which is an elegant rather thana massive style of purple. A white pepper freshness finish reminds me of whole bunches but they don’t use it for Gevrey-Chambertin wines. Excellent alpine strawberry note, and a very fine persistent finish. Good. (Nov 2021)”

94 points Christy Canterbury, MW (TimAtkin.com): “This comes from three parts in Lavaux that in total average about 45 years old. It sports delightful freshness with mulberry highlights and a minerally background. The palate is rich in fruit yet very mid-weight thanks to singing acidity and fluid, drizzle soft tannins. This is an unusually accessible Lavaux. 2023-34. (2022)”

92-94+ points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): “The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques unfurls to reveal aromas of dark berries, rose petals, exotic spices and violets. Medium to full-bodied, layered and complete, with terrific concentration, lively acids and beautifully refined tannins, this is especially promising this year. (Jan 2022)”

92-94 points Neal Martin (Vinous): “The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru offers impressive, delineated redcurrant and cranberry fruit on the nose, not powerful, but neat and precise. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, quite fleshy and Chambolle-like. Slightly granular in texture towards the marine-tinged finish, I would give this 2-3 years in bottle. Very fine. Drink: 2026-2050. (Dec 2021)”

92-94 points/’Sweet spot/Outstanding,’ Allen Meadows (Burghound): “A mentholated top note is present on the aromas of kirsch, black cherry and distinct earth scents. There is more volume, mid-palate concentration and muscle to the larger-scaled flavors that are at once impressively rich yet well-delineated on the dusty, serious and built-to-age finale. This is very impressive. Drink: 2035+. (Jan 2022)”

Bill Nanson (Burgundy Report): “Only a little more colour than Chambolle. Less forward but gorgeously complex and pure aromas – that’s great. Fresh, sinuous a little direct, so complex – so great! Bravo! (Dec 2021)”
