Description

94 points Tim Atkin, MW (Decanter): “Well situated next to the Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru, the Faiveley holdings come from two terraces that are fermented separately. Never opulent, even in a vintage like 2018, this is floral, racy and textured, with a hint of ageworthy reduction, crunchy acidity and expertly integrated 50% new wood. A Gevrey for people who like finesse in their Pinot Noir. Drinking Window: 2022-2030. (Oct 2019)”

92-94 points Jasper Morris, MW: “Two thirds are from the domaine, one third purchased grapes. Their part is cooler, the purchases give more weight. Light fresh nose which nonetheless has some weight. Very fresh finish but a certain weight of white fruit too. Chiselled limestone finish, correctly ripe. Tasted: November 2019.”

92-93 points Steen Öhman (Winehog): “Clos des Issard is a Faiveley monopole located just north of Clos de Ruchottes – the upper part of Ruchottes-Chambertin owned by Domaine Armand Rousseau. It’s a 0.6095-ha 1er cru that Faiveley acquired in 2002 after renting the vineyard for around 50 years. The soil is limestone, and the terroir is similar to Ruchottes-Chambertin. The 2018 Clos des Issard is a refined Gevrey with lovely generous fruit and filigreed minerality. On the palate, quite rich yet cool, with more mineral focus than the Lavaux. The fruit is lovely, but not as energetic as the exuberant Lavaux. Drink from 2032. (11/14/19)”

90-93 points Fine Wine Review: “This wine is the assemblage of both the upper and lower portions of the vineyard. The lower portion was replanted in 2005. Spicy dark fruits in nose. Medium-weight, still has some tension, although less than in most vintages, dark fruit, minerality. 14º, but don’t feel the alcohol. As always, this wine bears a distinct resemblance to Ruchottes-Chambertin, which is the vineyard immediately south of the Clos des Issarts. (11/25/19)”
