Description
94 points Neal Martin (Vinous): “The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts 1er Cru has a very sensual and creamy bouquet with luscious red cherry and wild strawberry fruit, flirting with jamminess but thankfully avoiding that. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This is well balanced and more harmonious than its peers, with a fine bead of acidity and a fine-boned finish. This should age with grace and panache and seems like it is putting some distance between itself and Amélie Berthaut’s Les Suchots. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. Drink: 2022-2045. (Oct 2019)”
93-94 points Steen Öhman (Winehog): “One of my favorite wines from Amélie Berthaut is the Vosne-Romanée Les Petits-Monts .. a vineyard with a very filigree and delicate minerality. The 2016 edition is a delightful glass – effortless and balanced – without any enhancing effects of the April frost. The nose is brimming with mineral infused fruit – detailed, airy and cool. On the palate lovely intensity – juicy mid-palate with a lovely range of forest berries. Not a blockbuster 1er cru – but a delightful wine with a zen like balance and display of details. Drink from 2028. (1/21/18)”
91-93 points and ‘Outstanding,’ Allen Meadows (Burghound): “(from a .50 ha parcel). Reduction presently dominates the nose. Otherwise there is outstanding precision and cut to the polished and cool medium weight flavors that flash even more obvious minerality on the moderately austere and focused finale. The malo only just finished and while this is a bit awkward today, the underlying material is sufficiently promising that my sense is that this will ultimately be excellent. Drink: 2028+. (Jan 2018)”
91-93 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): “The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Petits Monts, a vineyard that is completely worked by hand and horse, has a mineral-driven, almost austere bouquet at first, but it opens up gloriously in the glass. There is real energy here. The palate is very well defined with strawberry pastilles and a touch of blue fruit, tapering a little toward the finish (perhaps due to the cold cellar) but still leaving you with the impression that it will blossom with four or five years in bottle. Drink: 2021-2040. (Dec 2017)”
