Description
96 points James Suckling: “This has quite pronounced vanilla oak, but has only just been bottled. As it aerates, notes of ripe pear, citrus and pineapple develop. Rich and creamy, this makes a bold statement, but also has lovely freshness that complements the generous body. Keeps pumping out the flavors for a long time at the finish. Drink or hold. (8/16/21)”
93-96 points Jasper Morris, MW: “Grown on marl with yellow notes, but only a narrow band above the calcaire de Corton. Pale lemon and lime colour. The nose is powerful, but backward in detail. A huge mouthful with controlled flesh alongside an intense limestone backbone, some pebbles in the background, very long finish. Impressive. (Nov 2020)”
94 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): “Rich and demonstrative, the 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of orchard fruits, peach, nutmeg, orange oil and fresh bread. Full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, it’s deep and concentrated, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and a long, saline finish. This is an unusually broad-shouldered but beautifully balanced Corton-Charlemagne from Bouchard. Drink: 2025-2055. (Sep 2021)”
93 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): “From a parcel against the trees at the top of the slope in thin clay soils over limestone. The nose is a bit closed at first, but opened up with green apple and citrus notes on the palate. It shows pleasantly crisp acidity, but also impressive extract and richness. It should open with age to reveal more of its mineral character. Only 15% of the casks used in the maturation were new, so the wine shows a remarkable purity of fruit. Drinking Window: 2022-2034. (Oct 2020)”
