Description

93-95 points Neal Martin (Vinous): “The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is mixture of estate and contracted fruit – about two-thirds and one-third, respectively. It has a powerful bouquet of dark cherries and boysenberry fruit, maybe just needing a little more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit on the entry and good grip. More sinewy than other Clos Vougeot tasted. There is a subtle but welcome tang of white pepper on the aftertaste thanks to the 40% whole cluster. Drink: 2024-2048. (Dec 2020)”

92-95 points Jasper Morris, MW: “40% whole bunch vinification. Dense purple, sweet ripe dark fruit with a little oak and a touch of liquorice. Powerful yet in balance, with good energy, as ripe as it can get away with, no vulgar tannins. (Dec 2020)”

93 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): “There are two parcels here; one is at the bottom of the Clos between Leroy and Jadot, the other is in the centre next to the vines of Château de la Tour. In wet years they are not blended, but in dry years such as 2019 they are, to give a wine with a very dark plummy fruit, with notes of liquorice and spice. The texture is lush, yet richly tannic and very long. Superb, definite grand cru quality. Drinking Window: 2024-2039. (Oct 2020)”

92-94+ points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): “Aromas of cassis, orange rind, plums, incense and loamy soil preface the 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, muscular and concentrated wine that’s deep and youthfully structured, standing out as one of the blockier, more introverted wines in a very suave portfolio from Drouhin. This is a fine proposition for the long haul. (Jan 2021)”
