Description

92 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): “I love Denis Bachelet’s Gevrey Vieilles Vignes bottling, which year in and year out is the quality equivalent of a top premier cru. The 2013 is another in the long line of successes for this excellent cuvée, as the wine offers up a youthful and very classy aromatic constellation of black cherries, cassis, raw cocoa, grilled meats, black minerality, woodsmoke and a deft framing of nutty new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very elegant on the attack, with an excellent core of sappy fruit, outstanding soil signature, suave tannins and lovely grip and focus on the long and youthful finish. High class juice! 2020-2045. (Nov/Dec 2014)”

90-92 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): “The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Village Vieilles Vignes has another broody bouquet cut from the same cloth as the Côtes de Nuits: brambly black fruit mixed with woodland, almost wet sand aromas. These aromatics take you down into the earth instead of up into the air. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, sorbet-fresh red cherry and boysenberry fruit. This is full of energy, full of vim and vigour with a harmonious finish that delivers a touch of bitter lemon that lends it edge. Superb. Drink: 2016-2026. (Jan 2015)”

90-92 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): “Bright and delineated, the 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is a terrific example of the year. Wild flowers, dark stone fruits, mint, crushed rocks, spices and leather are all given an extra kick of brightness in an energetic, chiseled Gevrey that delivers the goods. There is a lot to like here. Drink: 2019-2033. (Apr 2015)”

89-92 points and ‘Outstanding/Top value,’ Allen Meadows (Burghound): “(from vines averaging between 60 and 70 years of age located in Les Champs Perriers, En Derée, Sylvie, Les Jeunes Rois, La Justice, La Burie and La Platière). A discreet application of wood intertwines with notes of black cherry, earth, humus and a hint of the sauvage. This is also quite lush though with more evident muscle to the medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by firmer and more prominent tannins on the balanced and lingering finish. This too delivers excellent quality for its level and will also drink well young if desired. Drink: 2021+. (Jan 2015)”
