Description

89-91 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): “The NV Extra-Brut Garennes is bright, crystalline and super-precise, with plenty of lemon peel, grapefruit and floral character. This release is based on 2016, with 40% reserve wines from 2015, 2014 and 2013. The bottle I tasted was disgorged à la volée, in other words, with no dosage, hence the parenthetical score here. Laval plans to give the commercial release one gram of dosage to give this wine, the entry-level offering, a little added near-term approachability. There is certainly plenty to look forward to. Drink: 2019-2027. (Jul 2018)”

(*) Peter Liem (ChampagneGuide.net): “This is the first release of a new cuvée: 40 percent of it is 2015 meunier from the village of Chambrecy, while the rest is Cumières meunier with a little pinot noir and chardonnay, from 2014, 2013 and 2011. It’s broad and earthy, with a generous build and a pronounced signature of heavy clay soils. There’s a hint of oak, as a portion of this was fermented and aged in new barrels, but overall this is forward in its fruitiness and more precociously accessible than Laval’s Cumières blend. Last tasted: 5/17.”
