WHWC Staff Notes: “A blend of 70% Pinot Meunier, 25% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Noir and disgorged in April 2015, the Gratiot & Cie Almanach No. 2 Intense is an interesting showcase of Pinot Meunier as the base of a blend. Chalk dust minerality underscores the aromas of jasmine, brioche, white peach and mint chocolate, while the medium-full body gives just enough round creaminess from 6 years lees aging to temper the strident, chalky palate. Even handed acid supports flavors of lemon curd and orange peel with hints of oyster shells sneaking in. At 8 g/L dosage, it’s bright and fresh for its weight, and it will drink well for the next 5 to 7 years.” — Andrew Kitz
