Description

94 points Luis Gutiérrez (Wine Advocate): “[$45 list] The 2014 José Zuccardi is mostly Malbec with 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from Altamira and Gualtallary. It fermented in concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in large oak foudres. There is great austerity and balance here, with more bone than flesh. There’s never any excess ripeness, extraction or oak. Serious, focused, deep, mineral and long. Truly outstanding. It was bottled in February 2016. Drink: 2018-2022. (Jun 2018)”

94 points Tim Atkin, MW: “The second vintage under the José Zuccardi label – it was previously known as Zeta – is a cuvée of Malbec with 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Built to age and sourced entirely from limestone soils, it’s focused, refreshing and deliberately austere with leafy, grassy, green herb flavours and a taut finish. 2020-30.”

92 points Stephen Tanzer (Vinous): “($45 list; fermented in concrete and aged for 24 months in second- and third-use foudres; from vineyards in Paraje Altamira and Gualtallary): Dark ruby-red. Subtle aromas of currant, plum and licorice showcase the wine’s small Cabernet component. Softer and fuller in the mouth than the Tito Zuccardi bottling, but still with lovely inner-mouth energy and precision and an impression of weightlessness from the calcaire. Finishes classically dry and very long, with fine-grained tannins and captivating violet lift. Drink: 2020-2028. (Jul 2018)”

92 points James Suckling: “This is dense with lots of ripe fruits and layers of spices and fruits at the same time. Full body and a tight middle palate that opens and unfolds on the tongue. Juicy finish. Drink now. (4/5/18)”
