Description
The 2018 Barolo Brunate from Giuseppe Rinaldi has aromas of warm spice , wild herbs and dried fruit. On the palate it is warm, soft, round, creamy with a little memory of brown sugar sweetness but of course the wine is bone dry. This is a traditional Barolo with power and intensity but feels much brighter and more modern in the context of the fruit. It is focused, with lovely mouth-watering freshness and a refinement to the tannins though they are still firm and assertive. This, together with the vivacity of the fruit, gives a modern twist to a traditional theme. This is a very exciting wine and to achieve this concentration in 2018 feels like an amazing achievement. Wait at least two three years and drink for 25 plus.

Varietal
Nebbiolo
The Nebbiolo grape varietal is widely understood to be the fruit responsible for Italy’s finest aged wines. However, its popularity and reliability as a grape which gives out outstanding flavors and aromas has led it to be planted in many countries around the world, with much success. These purple grapes are distinguishable by the fact that they take on a milky dust as they begin to reach maturity, leading many to claim that this is the reason for their unusual name, which means ‘fog’ in Italian. Nebbiolo grapes produce wines which have a wide range of beautiful and fascinating flavors, the most common of which are rich, dark and complex, such as violet, truffle, tobacco and prunes. They are generally aged for many years to balance out their characteristics, as their natural tannin levels tend to be very high.
