Description
A Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from the young folks at Banshee, who are best known as up-and-coming Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir blenders? It is allowed. With the cool 2010 vintage on their minds, they worked with their growers (it’s increasingly a vineyard-based as opposed to bulk lot operation) to drop fruit early in the season, and then culled their finished barrels of wine by as much as 50%! The result is pure Banshee style, the best of the barrels, let others drink the rest. From the winery’s note: “Our Cabernet has never been about full throttle fruit, rather elegance with cut. So where others saw devastation in 2011, we saw a great opportunity to make something special….The final blend is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 9% Petite Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. We aged the wine with a bit less new oak than usual because of the vintage (70% new French oak, 30% neutral).”
