Description

93 points Tim Atkin, MW (Decanter): “Dominique Lafon’s village red comes from the young-vine parcels of his Volnay Santenots Premier Cru that were picked last – perhaps surprisingly – in 2018. This is a textbook example of what a Volnay should taste like, with nose-twithingly appealing aroma, pure, lacy, tannins, crunchy summer berry flavours and skilfully integrated 20% new wood. Drink: 2022-2028. (Oct 2018)”

‘Outstanding/Top value’/89-91 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): “(exclusively from young vines 1er fruit). A mentholated top note can be found on the slightly riper and more deeply pitched aromas of cassis, poached plum and dark raspberry. The exceptionally rich, even opulent and suave, medium-bodied flavors exude a subtle minerality on the sneaky long and more refined finish. This is ripe but lovely. Drink: 2026+. (Apr 2020)”

90 points Jasper Morris, MW: “These are the young vines of Volnay Santenots: some are 5 year old, the rest from 2002. Medium plus depth of colour, quite a bit more weight of fruit. Much more volume than the Monthelie, at the moment showing its oak to taste but structurally just fine. (Oct 2020)”

90 points Neal Martin (Vinous): “[$119 list] The 2018 Volnay Village is tightly wound on the nose, offering blackberry, wild strawberry and touches of pressed iris flower. The palate displays fine density for a Village Cru. Saline and quite spicy in the mouth, with a gentle grip on the finish. Maybe a slightly burly Volnay, it will need cellaring for 4–5 years before reaching its plateau. Drink: 2023-2033. (Dec 2020)”
