98+ points Mosel Fine Wines: “AP: 61 20. The 2019er Erdener Prälat Riesling Auslese lange GK was made from partially botrytized fruit picked at over 130° Oechsle and was fermented down to noble-sweet levels of residual sugar. This already lightly-golden-colored wine quite reductive and marked by some volatile acidity at first. These scents quickly blow away and give way to rich and ripe notes of roasted pineapple, candied grapefruit, lime, coconut, herbs, marzipan, and almond paste. The wine enters into a completely different dimension on the palate. Notes of marzipan, mango, passion fruit, and raisin are some of the nuances which come through in the stunningly pure yet oily structure. The finish is all about fiery presence and intensity, but the wine remains elegant and hugely playful. The after-taste is almost endless as it is driven by both presence and power. This “little” Prälat TBA is still very much work in progress, and needs quite some rest before showing all its nuances. But one thing is clear: It is a little jewel in the making! 2039-2079. 97+ points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): “The 2019 Erdener Prälat Riesling Auslese (Long Gold Capsule) is very intense yet precise and fresh on the ripe and concentrated nose, which is reminiscent of orange and lemon chutney and indicates highly finessed botrytis. Crystalline and fresh on the first palate, this is a salty-sweet, very intense yet always filigreed and classy Auslese that combines finesse and piquancy with concentration and rich sweetness that never feels really sweet or clumsy. Very long. This should be great in 15-20 years, and it won’t taste that sweet by then. Based on early, perfectly clear and fine botrytis. 375-milliliter bottles. Tasted at the domain in September 2020. Drink: 2035-2100. (Oct 2020)”
