Description

99 points James Suckling: “So ripe, but also deep and delicate, this is a masterpiece of creamy sensuality, the considerable power and concentration underplayed, with the result that it has noble elegance. Yes, there is a hint of exotic fruit in the nose, but also minty freshness. The finish is very long and intense, but so finely nuanced. Drink or hold. (11/28/21)”

95-97 points Neal Martin (Vinous): “The 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru (Marquis de Laguiche) is very intense on the nose, featuring subtle licorice scents tucked behind the citrus fruit; this seems to expand with aeration. The palate is beautifully balanced with a playful entry of apricot and quince. It builds beautifully in the mouth, revealing hints of crème brûlée and almond shavings toward the well-defined finish. Hints of chai tea and grilled hazelnut swirl around on the aftertaste. This is a long-term Montrachet. Drink: 2024-2050. (Dec 2020)”

95-97 points Jasper Morris, MW: “Pale green and yellow. Here the nose is very backward. So much still to come. One can read the shape and potential of the wine without being able to see the detail. There is a sensual deep yellow fruit, a sense of power thrilling the palate, even some warmth, before a superbly persistent finish. This will make a really fine Montrachet, without losing sight of the richer style of the year, we just cannot pick out all the nuances yet. (Dec 2020)”

94-97 points/’Don’t miss!’ Allen Meadows (Burghound): “(from a 2.06 ha parcel on the Puligny side). An overtly floral yet restrained nose reflects additional notes of lemon zest, white peach and apple compote. There is outstanding volume to the concentrated and powerful large-scaled flavors that coat the palate with dry extract that also serves to buffer the citrus-tinged acidity shaping the hugely long finish. The Drouhin Montrachet is usually a wine of finesse and understatement though in 2019 it is more muscular and imposing and altogether impressive. Drink: 2031+. (Jun 2021)”

94-96 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): “The 2019 Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche Grand Cru is very promising, wafting from the glass with aromas of orange zest, honeyed pears, white flowers, citrus blossom and toasted almonds. Full-bodied, concentrated and enveloping, it’s rich and layered, with huge depth at the core and a long, saline finish. (Jan 2021)”
