Description
92 points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): “Based on the 2015 vintage and 40% of reserve wines, the NV Extra Brut Ultradition is an assemblage of 60% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir from eight villages and terroirs in the Coteaux Sud d’Epernay and the Marne Valley. Vinified in cuves, pièces and foudres and aged on the lees for six months (with malolactic partly done), this is a deep, pure and complex cuvée. Full-bodied, firm and very mineral yet fine, fresh and pure on the salty palate, the finish reveals charming richness and intense fruit but keeps the firm and chalky expression of this impressive Extra Brut. I’d keep this cuvée for another two or three years, but I suppose it can also age for a decade. Tasted in August 2018 from Lot L.14 that was disgorged in November 2017. Drink: 2021-2028. (Aug 2018)”
92 points Wine Spectator: “[$50 list] Well-spiced and mouthwatering, this vivid Champagne offers a finely detailed bead and expressive flavors of black raspberry, dried apricot, orange blossom, fleur de sel and crystallized honey. Clean-cut and minerally on the finish. Disgorged December 2014. Drink now through 2020.”
92 points Wine & Spirits: “This blend includes fruit from seven villages in the Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs, mostly pinot meunier (60 percent), the balance chardonnay and pinot noir. The Laherte family ferments in a mix of large and small barrels and tanks, bringing out the bright strawberry notes of meunier while the smokiness of the oak plays in the background. It’s more delicate and refined than the Extra Brut, a salty, crunchy aperitif style. (Dec 2017)”
91 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): “The NV Brut Ultradition is similar to the Extra Brut bottling, but with a bit more reserve wines and naturally higher dosage. Interestingly, that mix results in a wine with more tension and brightness than the Extra Brut version. White flowers, mint and orchard fruit are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. Finely sculpted and full of energy, the Ultradition Brut is flat-out delicious. The blend is 60% Meunier, 30% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir, 50% 2016 and 50% reserve wines from 2015 and 2014. Dosage: 6-8 gr/L. Disgorged: March, 2019. Drink: 2019-2027. (Dec 2019)”
