Description
95 points Decanter: “The run up to the 2011 vintage was famously hot and dry, with an overall rainfall of 388mm. Fortunately the temperatures dropped by July, but the harvest was 15-20 days earlier than in 2010. It’s definitely a teenager, with a youthful, polished, vivid colour. There’s an attractive black fruit and spice character on the nose which follows on to the palate, showing alluring intensity with all the expected fruit. This richness is balanced out by a mineral character and some bitter chocolate notes. Overall it’s a powerful wine, and one that needs time to settle. Definitely worth returning to in a few years. 98% Tempranillo, 2% Graciano. Drinking Window: 2020-2040. (11/27/17)”
95 points Tim Atkin, MW: “(14.5%) Agustín Santolaya increased the percentage of Graciano – used for the first time in Roda I in 2010 – to 9% in 2011 because of the warmer Mediterranean vintage. The result is a cuvée that is built to evolve in bottle, with quite a bit of oak complemented by flavours of fig, bramble and vanilla spice. The tannins need time to fold into the texture of the wine. 2020-30. (2018)”
