Description

94 points Mosel Fine Wines: “AP: 31 19. The 2018er Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling GG, as it is referred to on the consumer label, is a bone-dry wine (with less than 3 g/l of residual sugar). It offers a refined and rather delicate nose of white peach, herbs, sesame, whipped cream, pear and orange blossom. The wine proves very pure and superbly playful on the deep, complex yet also remarkably airy palate and leaves some stunning even if at this stage rather non-saying flavors of tar, dried herbs and licorice in the hugely smoky finish. This dry Riesling proves immensely impressive but it will require many years to blossom. 2024-2038. (Oct 2019)”

18/20 points Michael Schmidt (JancisRobinson.com): “Just because Oliver Haag from the Fritz Haag estate and Marcus Haag from Schloss Lieser are brothers, it doesn’t mean that they make the same wines. Having said this, their renditions of the Juffer Sonnenuhr bear at least some resemblance: they are both very generous in terms of sweet appley fruit and viscosity. If forced to find the difference, I would say that Schloss Lieser shows just a tad more of the herbal-vegetal expression of spontaneous fermentation, but it seems a little softer than in some other GGs from the same estate. Drink: 2020-2028. (8/26/19)”
