Description

93+ points Luis Gutiérrez (Wine Advocate): “[$40 list] The nose of the village red 2013 Lanzaga is simply spectacular. It is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano from Lanciego, fermented in 8,000-kilogram concrete vats with natural yeasts and matured in a combination of 1,500 and 2,500-liter foudres and 225-liter barriques for 14 months. There’s no oak, and the nose is super expressive, nuanced and elegant, mixing flowers with wild berries, cured meat, spices and minerals. Even they are surprised by the evolution of the 2013s, as they still remember the challenges of the year. The wines have incredible freshness, and here, there are very elegant and refined tannins. This could very well be my favorite vintage of Lanzaga. 20,890 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2015. Drink: 2018-2023. (Feb 2018)”

93 points James Suckling: “Classically styled with dried cherry, tobacco and earthy notes giving rise to dried roses and red cherries. The texture is supple on entry, the fine-grained tannins carrying fresh blueberry and cassis flavors. Very fresh, long and soulful. Compact finish. Drink or hold. (8/2/18)”

92 points Josh Raynolds (Vinous): “(fermented in concrete tanks, followed by 14 months of aging in foudres and 225 liter French oak barrels) Deep ruby color. Smoke-accented dark berry preserve aromas are complemented by suggestions of licorice, incense and vanilla. Supple and broad on the palate, offering deeply concentrated blackberry, cherry, mocha and spicecake flavors and a touch of candied violet. Closes on a sweet blue fruit note, showing impressive tenacity and rounded, even tannins. Drink: 2021-2032. (Feb 2019)”
