Description

94 points Bruce Sanderson (Wine Spectator): “[$150 list] Features black cherry and blackberry fruit, with a firm structure and notes of mineral and spice. This is all about finesse and clarity, revealing a stony underpinning. Supple and long, ending with a mouthwatering impression. Best from 2022 through 2040. 40 cases imported. (2020)”

91 points Wine & Spirits: “[$150 list] From a small parcel just under the premier cru Charmes that Verdet contracts to farm, this is soft and earthy: It has the gentle, dreamy feel of a summer rain falling on honeysuckle and tea roses. The flavors play in a continuous loop, one that doesn’t go anywhere in the end but back to the gentle beginning. If you’re lost in a ouroboros, it might as well be in Chambolle. (Oct 2020)”

Verdet’s “Les Condemennes” is a lieu-dit, or single-vineyard, and it sits right alongside Chambolle’s famed Les Charmes. As with all his wines, Aurélien farms “Les Condemennes” 100% organically and uses only native yeasts for fermentation. Made without additives or chaptalization and with very little sulfur added, this is a wine that can be drunk now or held for several more years. Given the ultra-tiny production of this wine, it’s seldom seen in the U.S. market.
