Description
97 points James Suckling: “This is so intense and pure in every sense of the words. Crushed stones, blackberries and blueberries. Oyster shell and iodine, too. Full-bodied, tight and layered with a focused austerity, which gives the wine greatness. Drink in 2020 but already a classic. (4/5/18)”
96 points Tim Atkin, MW: “This used to be the top Malbec at Zuccardi, but there are now two further Piedra Infinita bottlings above it. It’s a pure, chiselled Malbec that was fermented with 50% whole bunches and aged in 20% older wood. Sappy and saline, with aromatic spices, layers of dark fruit and a mineral finish. 2020-30.”
95 points Stephen Tanzer (Vinous): “(this wine represents a blend of ten different soils from this property; fermented in concrete, then aged in 80% concrete and 20% used barriques): Bright ruby-red. Sappy, highly complex aromas of currant, plum and tobacco are complicated by a suggestion of soil. A wine of compelling richness and sweetness as well as superb inner-mouth lift, with urgent crushed boysenberry and blackberry fruit flavors accented by a violet note. Wonderfully suave wine with an impression of weightlessness. Finishes broad and unflagging, with fine-grained tannins reaching the front teeth. There’s a lingering salinity here from the shallow rocky, chalky soil. Splendid! Drink: 2021-2030. (Jun 2018)”
